St. Joseph Academy Physical Education
1/22 and 1/23/2020
Wednesday classes: PK4 and 4th to 8th grade
Thursdays classes: PK3 and K to 3rd grade
Grade PK3 and PK4:
Short warm up – stretching, calisthenics and sprints (green line to green line)
Activity: Manipulative skills: Throwing, catching bouncing
We will continue the skill tests for PK4 and when complete, we will begin individual striking skills using different parts of the body(PK3 is done with the tests). Balloons, cotton balls and beach balls will be used as well as extensions of the hand (paddles or cardboard discs).
Grade K to 2: Grade 2 still needs to finish the skill tests of bouncing and catching with a partner. Then I will do make ups for ablsentees. Students not being tested may hula hoop, jump rope or play with sponge balls and rubber balls. Grade K and 1 have already started the striking activity using individual practice with the balloons. We will continue striking skills listed by the teacher on his clip board. When individual balloon skills are complete, we will move on to individual skills with cotton balls. When that is complete we will begin partner skills with balloons. Grade K and 1 are on the 2nd day of striking. The teacher has a list of different striking skills covered with balloons and cotton balls. Partner skill will be next.
Circle games with small groups will conclude the partner balloon striking skills.
Grades 3 to 8:
Warm up- Stretching, calisthenics, slow jog (4 min.) around the gym between the green and black lines and around the cones
Activity: Physical fitness
Continue and finish fitness tests. Some students in different classes need to complete the pull up/flexed arm hang test and when done, will begin make up tests for those who were absent or who may need a better score in only one fitness test. Students not being tested may jump rope, hula hoop, shoot baskets or play improvised 4 Square using rubber balls. Grade 3 will not use the basketballs but will use sponge balls instead because we have not had basketball as a class yet. If and when tests are complete, we will begin the basketball unit with dribbling and passing, and receiving the ball with individual, partner and small group drills.
Just a reminder that there will be no phys. ed. classes next week. Everyone needs to wear gym uniforms, however for Spirit Day next Wednesday. Grades PK3 and PK4 will have relay races in the morning and grades K to 8 will have relay races in the afternoon. We will also, of course ,have our 8th grade vs. faculty volleyball game in the morning.
Peace as always,
