St. Joseph Academy Physical Education
10/16 and 10/17/2019
Wednesday classes: PK4 and 4th to 8th grade
Thursdays classes: PK3 and K to 3rd grade
Grade PK to 2: NJCCCS: 2.2, 2.5 and 2.6
Short warm up – calisthenics, stretches and full court sprints(Green line to greene line)
Activity: Movement exploration: Non-loco motor movements and manipulative skills: Kicking and trapping
Grade 2 needs to finish the non-loco motor skills test. Grades PK to grade 2 will then begin the manipulative skills unit with kicking and trapping skills using individual wall practice as well as partner practice. Whether or not we do wall practice will depend on the size of the class and the set up of the gym with respect to the objects on the sides of gym like the volleyball net and poles and the tables, piano ect.. Do 3 circle passing and trapping activities with the children calling out a name and then using the inside of the foot to pass the ball across the circle to the other student who will then trap the ball and so on. Remind students not to use the toes to kick but instead, the inside and instep of foot. Soccer balls and sponge balls will be used during this part of the unit.
Grade 3 – 8: NJCCCS: 2.2, 2.5, and 2.6
Short warm up – Calisthenics and stretching
Continue volleyball games started last week. Some classes may also use a beach ball in addition to the soft volleyball. Review rotation of players if needed and play volleyball game. Teacher will review rules and regs and of course safety rules with respect to the net, the poles and rolling the ball under the net after a point or side out. The teacher, as usual, will pick new teams. The 3rd and 4th grade will use a beach ball to play because the regular ball play is too difficult.
Enjoy the week.
