Week of September 16th
(Lessons are subject to change)
Language Arts: This week the children will review classroom procedures. They will practice lining up, following direction and waiting for their turn to share and talk in complete sentences. They will practice fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination by tracing curve lines.
Math: We will start learning about the calendar this week. They children will begin to understand and have a sense of time as we do our calendar daily. They will talk about what they did in the morning or what we will do next as part of our routine and schedule we follow, etc. Through the calendar they will also practice counting, sequence, number recognition, days of the weeks, months, etc.
Theme: Apples. We will do many fun activities to introduce our theme. In the Math center, they will count using apple counters. In Art, we will do an apple craft to display in our classroom. In Reading we will read among other books: We All Fall for Apples by Emmi Herman, I Am an Apple by Jean Marzollo, Amazing Apples by Jeff Baver and Johnny Appleseed by Jodie Shepherd. We will sing and dance to an apple picking song. As a science activity, we will cut some apples and look at apple parts with hand lenses. We will also enjoy drinking some apple juice and talk about all the delicious foods that we can make from apples!
My Big World: Investigate apples – Counting/science vocabulary. This lesson includes a preschool science video about apples.
