Week of October 21st

Language Arts: Letter of the week: D, d. This week we will work with the letter d. The children will learn name, sound, words that begin with this letter, song for letter, trace the upper and lower case, etc.
Science Theme: Pumpkins. We will dissect a pumpkin to learn the parts of a pumpkin. The children will use their sense of smell, sight and touch in this activity. They will use magnifying lenses to take a closer look at the pumpkin seeds. We will then enjoy carving and naming our pumpkin! We will read books about pumpkins and sing pumpkin songs.
Math: This week we will put emphasis on number four. The children will continue to practice the concepts of more and less.
Math Center: The children will enjoy counting pumpkin seeds. They will also compare group of seeds. They will be able to identify groups of more and less.
My Big World Magazine: 5 Little Pumpkins – Recognizing shapes
Religion: Lesson 2 – My Teacher Welcomes Me. Parents can reinforce the religion lessons by following the activities listed on the last page that says “For My Family”.
