Welcome to 5th Grade
The following are the projected lesson plans for the week of November 11th:
Grade 5 – Science
We will begin our second CELL, Inheritances and Adaptations. In this CELL we will understand how genetic codes are passed down from the parental generation to the offspring. We will begin to understand the complex structures of DNA and RNA and look closer at how cells replicate. We will extract DNA from onion skins and exam the double helix strands that we find.
Tuesday 11/12 – SDR investigation #3 in Inheritances and Adaptations due
Thursday 11/14 – Investigation 4 Vocab Quiz (pg. 33)
Grade 6 – Science
We will begin our third CELL, Kinetic and Potential Energy. In this CELL we will look at how energy is transfered between the energy of motion and the stored energy that comes with preparing compounds and changes in elevation. We will look closely at the formulas for potential energy (both chemically and mechanically) and work with pendulums to prove that the Law of Conservation of Energy exists.
Tuesday – Results for Performance Assessment in Weathering and Erosion due
Tuesday 11/12 – Benchmark on Weathering and Erosion
Wednesday 11/13 – Vocabulary quiz on Kinetic and Potential Energy
Grade 7- Science
We will continue our second CELL, Chemical Reactions. In this CELL, we will take a much closer look at how chemical reactions take place and if there is a relationship between the elements contained within the reactants and how they will react with metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. We will examine how subatomic particles determine how an atom appears and what chemical properties it possesses. We will begin working heavily with the different chemicals within the lab and introduce new lab practices during class time.
Wednesday 11/13 – SDR investigation #3 due in Chemical Reactions
Tuesday 11/12 – Procedure first draft for Performance Assessment in Chemical Reactions due
Tuesday 11/19 – Benchmark for Chemical Reactions
Thursday 11/21 – Vocabulary Quiz for Acids and Bases
Grade 8- Science
We will begin our second CELL (core educational learning lab), Heat and Heat Transfer. In this CELL we will explore how heat and thermal energy are transferred from one object to another. We will investigate how kinetic and potential energy plays a part in phase transition of water. We will look at how we can lower the freezing point and raise the boiling point by adding salt to different states of water.
Monday 11/11 – SDR investigation #2 due in Heat and Heat Transfer
Thursday 11/14 – Vocabulary quiz for Friction
Friday 11/15 – Benchmark for Heat and Heat Transfer
