Special reminders for this week:
Friday 5/24 – No school
Schedule for the week of Monday 5/20/19:
We will continue our fifth CELL, Investigating Heat. In this CELL we will study heat and heat transfer. We will look closer at conduction and convection and how thermometers measure kinetic energy within a substance. We will study how heat transfers from areas of high concentration to low concentration and learn how to safely and properly operate heating plates in the lab.
We will begin our seventh CELL, Solutes and Solubility. In this CELL we will look at how we can create solutions from adding different solutes to solvents. We will study concentration gradients and learn how to perform serial dilutions. We will study the effects of increasing concentrations of solutions on their boiling points and use the spectrophotometers to analyze our results.
We will begin our seventh CELL, Adaptations. In this CELL we will explore the changes species exhibit over time in response to changes in their environment. We will look closer at the concept of “survival of the fittest” and learn how organisms seek out mates which possess strong characteristics. We look at genotypes and phenotypes and learn how genetics plays a role in evolution.
We will begin our seventh CELL, Ecosystems. In this CELL we will look closely at the relationships between abiotic and biotic factors in ecosystems and how fragile the balance is between autotrophs and heterotrophs. We will analyze what could potentially happen if a species disappears and how our actions effect others.
