Special reminders for this week:
Monday 3/18 – Science Fair and HSA meeting @6:30 in the gym
Friday 3/22 – Father’s Day Celebration with Mass @8:00
Schedule for the week of Monday 3/18/19:
We will continue our fourth CELL, Earth’s Forces. In this CELL we will study gravity, friction, and the forces behind air and water currents. We will use our anemometers to take wind speed readings from the top of our school and analyze how gravity and friction work to slow down and stop objects on Earth. We will look closely at Newton’s Laws of Motion and apply them to our world.
We will begin our sixth CELL, Simple Machines. In this CELL we will look at the simple machines and how they affect the force we put in to move objects. We will study the coefficients of friction and learn how to overcome them. We will build levers and pulley systems in order to finish work. We will study the relationship between force, work, and distance and learn how to graph our findings in lab.
We will begin our seventh CELL, Adaptations. In this CELL we will explore the changes species exhibit over time in response to changes in their environment. We will look closer at the concept of “survival of the fittest” and learn how organisms seek out mates which possess strong characteristics. We look at genotypes and phenotypes and learn how genetics plays a role in evolution.
We will begin our sixth CELL, Photosynthesis. In this CELL we will look closely at the light and dark reactions that make photosynthesis possible. We will examine how carbon dioxide and water use photons to create oxygen and glucose. We will use oxygen meters to determine how underwater plants create habitats suitable for living things.
